Promoting Girls Education in Afghanistan Through a Safe Learning Environment and Acceptance

On March 15, 2016, Zala Ahmad gave a wonderful presentation about Afghan women, who have have been prime victims of conflict and violence, physical, verbal and psychological, for more than three decades. Access to education, leadership and employment opportunities is still very limited for women due to insecurity, poverty and social-cultural barriers.

Zala focussed on HOLD’s (The Humanitarian Organization for Local Development) established the Women’s Empowerment and Training Center (WETC) in 2009 in the province of Farah, Afghanistan. WETC has provided opportunities and resources to more than 5000 girls and women in English, Computer, Business Management, Leadership, Civic Education, Human Rights and Social and Advocacy Skills.
